Valparaiso - Left Luggage

We will be arriving from a cruise ship and would like to explore the city before going to Santiago.

Does anyone know if there is a safe, left luggage facility near the cruise ship dock or in the bus station.

I'm chilean and I lived in Valparaiso for 7 years.
The best and chepeast way to go from Valparaiso to Santiago is by bus. There are buses leaving from Valparaiso every 15 minutes for $4 US. There is also a bag check @ the bus station where you can leave your bags safely. The bus will leave you @ a subway station and from there you can visit the best of Santiago.
From Valparaiso to Viña you can go by public transportation or by train, This towns are very close together.
If you want to see good looking chileans go to a beach north of Viña called Reñaca (a 10 minute bus ride from Viña) walk the crouded beach and enjoy.
If you want a more free, naked ,hippie kind of beach I recomend you an spectacular beach 40 minutes north from Viña called Cau Cau in the town of Horcon.
In Valparaiso you have to go up the hills in the old funiculars. I specialy recomend the one @ cerro Polanco.
Have a good trip

Fransico

thank you for the info on transport to Santiago. we are also arriving that day and want to go to vina del mar. you mention that there are buses and trains going to vina. can you give us more specific info on how to get to either means of transport from the ship?

would appreciate any recommendations for places to stay in vina. when I looked on the net I see there is a best western marina del mar and the alcazar which seem to be well equipped and have air conditioning which seems to be needed at this time of year. I don't see any B & B's but maybe they don't advertize.

Cheers

Les

We will be arriving by ship on Jan20,2001 and are staying in Vino Del Mar for two days. WE then need to find transportation to the airport in Santiago. We will both be carrying luggage. Can anyone tell us the best way that we can get to Santiago airport from Vino with our luggage(and the less expensive)? Thank you so much for your help... Howard
