Tulum: Post-hurricane condition?
I'm so glad I found this site because I'm thinking of going to the Amansala Resort in Tulum pueblo (past Playa del Carmen) in February. But I wonder if it's worth it, after the hurricane. Does anyone know about the condition of the resort and the entire area? Have the beaches been washed away? Is it still possible to do things like snorkeling, diving, and visiting the ruins?
Thanks!!!

Hi Grovergirl - I am travelling to Tulum over New Year's and have been reassured by all I have read that all is well there - - - and the beaches may even be better than ever! Check out photos on http://www.locogringo.com/forums/tm....y=&#140937.

Tulum was for all practical purposes unaffected by Wilma in the direct sense. That is to say that of course as part of the region, it has been affected in terms of interruptions in business because of what happened during that period, but even much of Playa del Carmen is back to normal operating conditions now, being some 20 minutes south of where the real damage started, and Tulum is another hour south of PDC. So no worries there.
(Don't know what lingering effects you might see there from Hurricane _Emily_ in July, which passed through much closer to Tulum, but I expect none, the more time passes.)
