I have always gone to the Mayan Riviera in the winter and know kind of what to expect. However I am going to Ixtapa (staying at the Tesoro) in July and was wondering what to expect regarding undertow in the ocean, mosquitoes, what is close for us to see, etc. I'd appreciate any tips.

undertow be careful there Ixtapa more commercial than Zihuantanejo
more of a scenic fishing village feel.

We went to Ixtapa in April. The beaches in the main hotel zone had some very rough surf. A few people ventured out but unless you're a really strong swimmer, it could be challenging.

There are definately more swimable beaches than along the main hotel corridor. (We stayed for part of the time at Las Brisas and that was really rough water.) Zihua had beaches that were more swimmer friendly.

Our last 5 nights in Ixtapa were at the Club Med. The beach there was actually very swimable as it's sheltered by Isla Ixtapa.

I would recommend going to Playa Los Gatos. But, I would suggest you think very carefully about where you choose to park yourself. They all had plenty of chairs to rent and tables. But, the spot we picked was not somewhere they I would choose to eat (or use their ice.)

Any must sees or must dos that you can think of? I've heard that the archaeological museum is worth the time it takes to go through it.
