Transportation from Sao Paulo to Rio

I will be in Brazil in May, and will need to travel by ground from Sao Paulo to Rio. Whats the best way, train or bus? And is there any important info I need to know, like making reservations and safety tips. Thanks!

Steve: There are some 300 miles from Sao Paulo to Rio, and the best way to travel them is surely by plane. If you indeed need to travel by ground, you must travel by bus. There are buses on Sao Paulo station on the city terminal named Anhembi that departs every 15 minutes to Rio, in a 5 and a half hour travel. The travel by train is actually a tourist option, in a night long travel through the "silver train", departing in Sao Paulo from the Light Station. It is very expensive, almost US 120, as compared to the bus fares, US 40.
Have a good trip.
