too late for trip insurance?

Hi to everyone, especially the warm and friendly people sharing about Costa Rica.
I'm going to Costa Rica in April 2009, and paid for flights and accommodations within the last 3-4 weeks. Since it's beyond the 14 days, am I just too late, or is there a way to get insurance?
Thank you,
Elizabeth

Sure you can get it. It`s the pre existing conditions that might not be covered. Hopefully, you don`t have any of those.

You are best to ask the Insurance company that you intend to get insurance from.

if you should have gotten the insurance a month ago..why did you wait till now.?

I am not asking this question ...the Insurance Company might.

If you did not see your doctor or had any change in medications(if any) ..during this period of time, then there would be no new illness.

The Insurance wants your money but not your risk profile.

I cannot see them turning you down just because you forgot to purchase the insurance within a certain time frame.( but they could)

But ask them.... don't try to fool with an Insurance Company, they love to have any reason not to pay a claim.

I just bought insurance for our trip in March - and I bought the tickets back in May. So, that was several months after purchasing the tickets. It's not too late for you.

Thanks Pat, Percy and plumboy,
I've never bought travel insurance--I haven't traveled very much. However, reading the travel forum thread on insurance convinced me we should get it. The sites mentioned were squaremouth.com insuremytrip.com and...something else, I forget. If there are others folks would recommend, or tips on how to do this intelligently, I'd be grateful to learn from you. We have no pre-existing conditions that would pose problems, except perhaps, our ages (53 and 72).
Thanks,
Elizabeth

I was unsure of which policy to take with insuremytrip.com, so I called them and they were very helpful in helping me pick one that covered my concerns.

With no pre-existing conditions ..it should be no problem.

It is the pre-existing conditions that Insurances companies look into most.

Your home free.

You really need to get the travel insurance for the 72-year-old because Medicare does not cover anything outside of the U.S. Make sure you get both emergency medical coverage and emergency evacuation coverage.

I have used insuremytrip to compare and usually get the best deal from American Express. If you are qualified, check out USAA. I am now using them because the coverage is better and the rates slightly cheaper.

I think the "cancel for any reason" parts of the insurance that some policies offer may also not be available if you wait to purchase after your first payment. But most of the coverages are still fine if you wait.

We've used insuremytrip.com and they have been very helpful and offer great comparisons.
