What do you mean crosscheck? Does that mean it is unsafe? Does that mean it is not easy to get around? Does that mean there is nothing there worthwhile? Do you not like the people of Dangriga?
Please explain. I am trying to get as much info as possible before making a final decision.
I take it you're a hockey fan?

I don't mean to bad mouth Dangriga, but it really isn't a very attractive town. If I had 'landed' in Dangriga during my first trip to Central America, I would have been pretty intimidated.
I'm sure there are wonderful people in Dangriga, and after 15+ trips to Belize, I'm guessing I would be happy to spend some time there. But, I wouldn't recommend it for a first trip, unless there was a particular draw to be there.

Nothing in particular draws me to Dangriga, except we got offered a 3-bed, 3-bath detached house for a great price for seven nights. I have been reading as much as I can on Dangriga but haven't found a lot. It seems to be the equivalent of a third-world town from what I'm reading here.
I really don't know what to think as general as the last two comments have been.

I found it dirty and unattractive. Although we were only there for a few hours, the people didn't seem friendly like we'd found in San Ignacio, San José Succotz, Hopkins, Maya Centre, or Sittee River Village. It's not that we hated it, just that we loved most of the other places we visited. I can't be more specific than that with only a few hours' experience there. If you go with an open mind and a sense of humor, you'll be fine wherever you stay. What price? If you could share a link maybe someone would have more specific opinions.

I hate to say a price because undoubtedly somebody will say that is too much. I will just say it is a satisfactory price for us at less than $100 per night for the house I described. It has all of the necessities we will need and more.
It's still only a possibility. Nothing is set in stone yet. I will keep looking. But it has to meet our requirements, and I know that's a nasty word. Not a Motel, a Hotel, a Tent or with anything shared with anybody else. Plus, it must have a washer/dryer, a kitchen, etc. This place meets all of those.
Thanks again and keep up the good posting.

Have you checked the Kumquat link I posted above? Not sure about the wash/drier but you could ask them. The price is about half what you're quoting for the Dangriga place and every one here has loved the San Ignacio area and nearly all of us have been pretty cool about Dangriga. Guess I'm done trying to help - will look forward to reading your trip review, though. Happy trails...

Like hopefulist, I can't be more specific because, I too, only spent a short bit of time in Dangriga. There just didn't seem much interesting there, no beach, no friendly looking bars, just not much for the traveler.
San Ignacio is just so much more geared for travlers. Lots of restaurant options, tour options, a wonderful market on Saturday.
Belize is a third world country, or developing nation, whatever the current phrase is.
I just think there are other areas of the country which would make for a more pleasant trip.
Look into Punta Gorda or Hopkins if you must be on the ocean.
Also, while having a washer/dryer is certainly a convenience, I wouldn't let it be a deal breaker. In most towns in Central America, you can get your laundry done very cheaply, all you have to do is ask around.

Kumquat looked very nice and much more affordable. We will explore that possibility.
With all of the input I have on this thread, I feel we'll be able to find some spectacular things to do.
But if others wish to opine, please feel free.
Thanks very much.
