tamarindo to san jose flight question
Hello All
We are returning to Costa Rica this January and have decided to fly from Tamarindo to San Jose to avoid the miserable drive that we had last year. My question is this--we have a 10:30 AM departure time. The first SANSA flight gets us in at 7:15 AM. Is this adequate time or should we come in the previous evening? I think I know the answer to this but I couldn't find the post and my wife is reluctant to lose a day at Capitan Suizo unless absolutely necessary.
Thanx much
Frank

IF your Sansa flight is scheduled to arrive in Alajuela (SJO airport) at 7:15, you should be all right. Of course, everything hinges on the "if". How upset would you be to miss your 10:30? I wouldn't do it, but it would probably be okay 80% of the time!

I agree with shillmac, I would not do it either.
One delay for some reason and you miss your San Jose flight.
There is a comfort feeling of waking up on the morning of your flight home and being near the airport.
Too many nice places around the SJ Airport ,that you can spend the night and have less worry.
Good luck on your decision.
Too bad you were not able to fly into the Liberia Airport.
But then there are more choices for flights into San Jose.

I have the same question... But we leave SJ at 1 p.m. There are two Sansa flights out of Tamarindo that morning:
LV Tamarindo 6:20am, arrive SJ 7:15am LV Tamarindo 9:40am, arrive SJ 10:30am
I figure if we book the 6:20, then we have some wriggle room if there is a delay or problem. Thoughts?
Shillmac, I know you told me that you prefer to be in SJ the night before departure... But how about this option?
Thanks all.

Well, sure, the later flight out of SJO definitely eases your schedule up a little bit. It's just that, as a rule, you need to plan more time than you think it will take to get ANYWHERE in Costa Rica, whether by air, car, or bicycle! That is why, on another post, I suggested allowing 4 hours between Monteverde and the airport. Although it could be done in less, it is good to allow a little wiggle room! Nothing is more unpleasant in this little paradise than to try to beat the clock while on vacation! You should be fine!
