Surfing in Yucatan

We would like to visit Cancun, Mayan Riviera area this year. My daughter is starting her 3rd year of Spanish, and would like to practice. She also surfs. Does anyone know if there are surfboard rentals anywhere in the area? We had thought about Costa Rica, but our other daughter is looking for shopping. I've been reading all your great info, this is a wonderful way to learn about a new place.

There is really not much surfing on the coast of the Yucatan. I live in Cozumel and on the east side of the island is where the surfer dudes hang out, but they are VERY experienced. There can be a brutal undertow quite often and I would not risk letting my daughter surf here. Maybe boogie boarding, but again, that's risky with the way the currents are sometimes.
