There's not a lot of coral heads in PDC area, so no good snorkeling...just nice soft sand. There are some fake snorkeling parks..xcaret and xelha..they are good for children and new snorkelers. Try akumal or some of the cenotes..or yalku lagoon.

Hi

My wife and I had a great trip to Playa Del Carmen in March 2000. One of the best things on the trip was the snorkling that we did right og the island of Cozumel. The water was really nice and clear. We also went to Xcaret and Akumal by the way. I have posted a long travelogue together with some pictures from the trip on my homepage www.gardkarlsen.com. Maybe you can find som usefull information there

Have a great time in Mexico

Regards
Gard

Also Xel Ha is very good. Cozumal is very easy to get to. Just take the ferry from PDC. In cozumal you can hook up with a tour or rent a car for the day.

Playa is all sandy - no snorkeling there. However, we took a tour by boat to the Ino reef (maybe 15-20 minutes south by boat) and it was great! We even saw a moray eel!
