Should we consider Puerto Vallarta

Hi-
I am trying to plan for my husband's and my vacation. We had basically settled on Cancun- we like it because it's tropical beauty, great resturants, dancing, and convenient bus transportation. However, I am wondering if we should try someplace new. PV came to mind except that my husband made a face and said it was dirty- but he went on a high school trip (almost 15 years ago!) Is he right? Would we enjoy PV and where's a good place to stay? Thanks.

Lisa,
Yes! Consider Puerto Vallarta! Your husbands visit 15 years ago may have been to a "dirty" town then, but my, has the place changed!
There are many fine hotels and restaurants now available in one of the cleanest and most tourist friendly towns in Mexico. There are many websites dedicated to this beautiful area, www.puerto-vallarta.com/, www.hypermex.com, www.mex-access.com/. There is also a great almost complete hotel site at www.mts.net/~dcdonahu/pvhdet.html
My wife and I have been coming to this part of Mexico for over 20 years, and our breath is always taken away by the beauty of the Bay of Banderas and surrounding Sierra Madres. If you wish more info, please e-mail me.
Richard

If you want a Miami type vacation go to Cancun, but if you really want to have a combination of everything including romantic scenery try Puerta Vallarta...
PV! Have been to both, and greatly prefer PV, and yes, it's changed alot since your husband went l5 years. ago. Of course, it is a third world town and you will still see poverty and some dirty areas, but it's been much
improved. We've probably been there 20 plus times since '84 when we fell in love with it and bought a time share. I can give you lots of restaurant info if you'd like. Have a wonderful trip. I'm eagerly awaiting our next spring's trip there.

Lisa, your husband is 100% correct! And you won't have the beautiful, warm, Caribbean water or the gorgeous white sand beaches in PV, so think about that, too!!

Hola Lisa....Seriously consider Puerto Vallarta! You will find it very inviting, wonderful people, the Sierra Madres behind you and the Bay of Banderas in front of you. No, we are not like the Caribean, beach-wise, but if you are looking for a typical, charming Mexican town, much much less expensive than Cancun, less commercialized and friendly people, come on down!!!! Hi there! I'm mexican, so what I can really recommend is Ixtapa. I've just been there to get away from working stress, and my surprise was big: beautiful powdery sand, amazingly blue water, great relaxation, great food. The only thing about it is the waves. If you have children, skip it. If you really want to sit back and look at wonderful sunsets, that's where it's at!

Dirty ?? Wasn't even dirty here 15 years ago. Today it's cleaner than most American cities I've been to.
JR

I strongly recommend Puerto Vallarta over Cancun. As fas as dirty goes, Puerto Vallarta is one of the cleanest cities in Mexico.

Puerto Vallarta has a lot of charm which is sadly lacking in Cancun. The only downside to Puerto Vallarta is that the beaches are not the greatest.

I think you are better off going to Cancun. If your husband already has this attitude about pV, then he'll find fault when he goes there; and the beaches also 'appear' dirty in PV compared to Cancun's whiter, finer sand

Lisa
Tell your husband that PV is not dirty - PV is better than Cancun - big high rise "Malls" - nothing Mexican about Cancun, at least PV is Mexican - I would leave your husband at home and go away on your own, as he will find faults with PV if you took him there !
