San Luis Potosí, Mexico and area suggestions
My family and I are headed to San Luis Potosí in January. I have never been to Mexico and was hoping for some help with hotels, car rentals, and suggestions for traveling outside of the city. Thanks.

You've certainly picked an fascinating place for you first Mexico trip! I wonder if you have family there? It's not the first place people think of. Either way, good choice. Here's a link to my Trip Report on the area (though there's much more to see/do) I did not long ago:

Another worthy excursion would be Real De Catorce.
This is a good source, in Spanish, for other ideas:

We have our own car here, so I don't have any rental suggestions. But SLP has lots of temporary expat executives working there, so that shouldn't be a problem. Just don't be fooled by $5 a day rates.

Hi musictub,
I've stayed at Hotel San Francisco and Hotel Panorama in San Luis Potosi. I preferred the later, both were in good central locations. People on Trip Advisor complained about the hard beds though at the Panorama, I kind of liked the beds.
I love San Luis Potosi; there's such a fun energy at night in the central plazas.
Nice to see someone interested in going there!
Best wishes, Daniel
