Salar de Uyuni

I am interested in making the trip across the Salar de Uyuni to the colored lagoons in late October. Has anyone made this trip? What tour operator did you use? Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi Kelly,

We did not make it to the lagoons. We stopped at Isla Pescado on the Salar.

There is good information about the lagoons and arranging such trips in the "Bolivia Adventure Guide" (Hunter Publishing, Inc.) which I mentioned in my trip report. Vivien Lougheed is the author. ISBN: 158843365X Published May 2004, so all information is quite current.

Sharon, I saw that book at Barnes & Noble but, I ended up getting the latest -2004- Lonely Plant because it was more compact. Did you stay in Uyuni? Did you happen to take the train from Oruro? I'm wondering what it is like.

Hi Kelly,

Yes, we stayed in Uyuni and took the train from Oruro to Uyuni. That portion of my trip report will be coming up shortly. Check for the detail here:
