I'm thinking about going to Rio in June. Is this a good time to go? The average temps look pretty warm. Should I just wait for the summer to get the real Rio/ Brazilian experience? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

June is off season as you know but by USA standards you can probably still go to the beach and it may not be that crowded. Rio is a great place to go anytime of year and it may not be so hot for you, it depends on what you like. I go twice a year once in November which is like the beginning of the season and its not too hot then either but the beaches are lively and hot. Then I go in February when the season is in full bloom, the beaches are very lively, packed and very hot, 95 degrees plus this is when you get the full flavor of Rio. In my opinion the best time to go to Rio is 2 to 4 weeks before Carnival when the atmosphere is starting to heat up but you don't have to pay the Carnival prices. And if you really want to get the full flavor of Rio stay in Copacabana but alot of people on this board will try to steer you toward Ipanema but you will have to decide, they have good reasons too.

I agree with DonDiega, the best time to go to Rio is right before Carnival. You get to see all the street performances and samba show practices and just when the crowds show up...you go home! Late March is also a good time to go...summer is winding down and hotels start lowering their prices in preparation for the low season.
