Restaurants in Playa del carmen-need input!
My husband and I wil be in PDC soon! (I can't wait!)
We decided not to do an AI and explore the restaurants in PDC. Any suggestions of great places for breakfast and/or dinner?

Also, how much we should expect to pay for each meal-(approximately).

thanks!

There are lots of good restaurants in Playa del Carmen. I can't remember a lot of names, so here goes - for breakfast, we liked a small place that was on a side street off Avenida 5. It's like a bakery cafe - they serve sandwiches, etc., plus the most incredible cinnamon buns. It's owned by an American couple. They have some tables on the sidewalk. For dinner, there were 2 or 3 places we ate at last year. (We were only there for 3 days last winter.) I had a wonderful shrimp dinner at a Thai restaurant on Avenida 5. The best I've ever had. I like the place with the masks that specializes in pizza (Mascaras, maybe?). Also had very good Italian food at Da Gabi's, which is also a hotel.

You'll find lots of Italian restaurants in town. Probably more Italian than anything else. I can't really remember prices - it's not super cheap, but not outrageous either.

Enjoy - I think you've made the right decision by not going all inclusive.

We just returned from PDC & had a blast! You made a good decision to dine-around unless your hotel is waaaay down in Playacar(too far to walk). There are some great restaurants in PDC. I think the ones Susan couldn't name were the Zulu (Thai) and Sabor (bakery/cafe). We loved Mascaras (great pizza, good seafood etc). Also La Parrilla(excellent Mexican), Limones, Da Gabi,Blue Lobster (11.95 lobster special). Our breakfast was included with our room so we ate at the Pelicano every morning. I guess we spent $30-50.00 every night including drinks.
I hope you enjoy PDC as much as we did.
There are a couple of restaurants that are joined together right off the main avenue. They are both South American steakhouses. The Argentinian one (I can't remember the name) is wonderful. They serve yummy bread with dipping sauces---YUMMY!!! Especially their homemade chimichurri sauce. If you ask around, I'm sure that you'll be able to find it. And don't forget to try one of the street vendors late at night(after a late night). You can trust them, and it's way cheap! Have fun!
