I'm a travel agent who has never been to Agentina and would need info. on the Recoleta area, Buenos Aires. Is it a good area to stay in and any info on this area would greatly be appreciated.

The Recoleta is widely considered the best area for tourists in Buenos Aires.

The Alvear Palace Hotel, said to be the best in South America, is right there.

Beyond that, copying my reply to a similar question in another tourism forum: "I suggest you start by doing your homework, which means reading all the recent posts related to your destinations in this and other travel forums and then ask more specific questions."

Recoleta is the wealthiest part of town and includes the cemetery of the rich and famous where Eva Peron is buried. The saying goes, "The only thing better than living in Recoleta is dying in Recoleta."

Posters above are correct. Recoleta is the safest and most affluent area of the city. It's no coincidence that the Alvear Palace, Four Seasons, Caeser Park, and the new Hyatt are all within a few blocks of eachother. It's simply the best area. I live on the same block as the Alvear Palace and it's simply one of the best for a tourist to stay in. There is a police presence around the clock and the area is great full of great restaurants and outdoor cafes.

It has life all hours of the day and night. It's a good option for most people. The area is very European. Good luck.

I went to BA a couple of years ago and stayed in Recoleta. As a single female in my 30s, I thought it the best place to stay. I would have no problems recommending that area.
