rafiki safari lodge-too much $?
Hi-
I have four kids, ages 10-13, along with me and my husband. Rafiki wants $1600 for two nights (all meals) and one full day of rafting....sounds pricey to me. Anyone out there that can speak to whether Rafiki delivers on the high pricetag? We'll be going in early June.

I tried to go there once, looks lovely, but communication was so poor I gave up and went somewhere else. It looks like a great place but $800 a night is pretty steep, imo. You could always stay in the area, such as Dominical, and just go rafting on a day trip and save money.

I have visited this property, but it has been awhile. It is pretty, and the South African family that owned it is was very friendly. The idea of staying in a "safari tent" was appealing, and this is a great rafting river.
I agree with the poor communication issues. We sent a few guests, but the reservation process was cumbersome. We were not so in love with the property that we wanted to deal with these issues.
This was a few years ago, and I thought that the price was a little dear back then. It was cheaper than you mentioned in your post. It seems to be a lot more expensive now. I would have a hard time justifying the price.
For not much more, you could go to the Osa Peninsula. Or for much less, you could check out Tortuguero. Both locations offer some intense nature, and I would choose either over this particular property.

In my opinion that is a bit step for two nights and agree with other reply that water rafting a whole day might be a bit too much expecially with kids. Nature tent camps are available throughout Costa Rica in Uvita, Osa Peninsula (Drake & near Puerto Jimenez) there is also one in Cahuita.
