Hmmm... where I go to the beach the chairs and umbrellas are always already set up. Is it different at a resort?
You might want to tip a bit higher at the beginning, if it will be the same person every day, and he will provide a service like "saving a space" for you or something.

Suze, at the Playa Los Arcos you show your room key to get your chair/umbrella each morning. The fellow then carries it and sets it up on the beach. Last year, I tipped $1 or $2, depending what I had on me. I was just wondering what others tipped and if I was okay.

Thanks, now I understand. My hotel is not on the beach, so I go to the bars and restaurants on Los Muertos, where for the price of the drinks you can sit in their chairs and under their palapas or umbrellas. I'm sure what you are tipping is OK.
