Jim, I don't have any experience with those resorts, but had a suggestion. I was in PV in Oct. one year and the humidity was almost unbearable unless you're in or near the water. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy PV, but you might want to check for the temps/humidity during Sept.

Jim, I've stayed at a few places in PV and this past Febuary I stayed at Continental Plaza. I must say it was fantastic. The food was great the beach (not bad) pool and hotel activities (super fun) you play tequilla volleyball in the pool for shots! The rooms were nice and super clean and the whole hotel was close to everything.. downtown, shopping, bull ring and places to eat. The staff were extemly helpful but there was only one drawback....if your wife is a size 3-5 keep her "nice clothes" at home. My cleaning lady despite my generous tipping had stolen 2 of my dresses. O well over all travelling at 22 years old, female and alone felt really safe and secure. If you need more info about anything please let me know Ciao!
Have you considered the Westin Regina? We have been to PV several times, and this is our favorite. The Mariott CasaMagna and Krystal are also very nice.
Of your choices, i would definitely go with Bunganvillas. Los Tules is a nice "economy" resort. The grounds of the Mayan Place are very nice and have the best beach in PV, but beware, you are in "time-share" country. They have at least 20 or so couples being shuffled in and out all day and filling up the lobby waiting for their "hard-sell" pitch. And, even though the grounds and hotel are deluxe, the rooms are just better than average (although very clean). The bathtub/showers just have a plastic tub surround. Also, be prepared for a $15 cab ride into town if you choose a Nuevo Vallarta resort, but if your are looking for seclusion and great beaches, perhaps you will enjoy it.
Good luck.

I would definitely stay in or near town. I love Nuevo Vallarta as long as I want to stay on the grounds and not venture into town too often. But for honeymooners ( or anyone) there are some of the most romantic restaurants in and around town. To sit overlooking the town and the water is part of the pleasure of being in this Mexican town.
