Puerto Vallarta - Bad Water

My wife & I want to spend a week at a good hotel here in May. Good friends are warning us to stay away because they claim P.V. has not yet been able to clear up water problem and visitors still become very sick from it. Can any one comment on this?

I'VE BEEN TO PV THREE TIMES AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS. WE DO STAY AT TOP HOTELS THAT HAVE PURIFIED WATER BUT WE USUALLY BUY BOTTLED WATER.
Dick...whatever you do...DON'T think about cancelling a trip to Puerto Vallarta because of so-called water problems! Just play it safe and as everyone else always advises, just buy bottled water. It's plentiful and a very inexpensive precaution.Just GO ! And have a GREAT time! PV is a fabulous place...so much to see and do. We're going back next week ...can't get enough of the place!

ditto the above - you won't have a problem at the nicer places. They depend heavily on the tourist industry and have improved the water supply and general cleanliness alot in recent years. We've been going there since '84, and sometimes have gone 2-3 times a year. If you have any doubts at a specific restaurant, just ask. If you are staying a good hotel, that shouldn't be a concern either. The places to worry about would be the little carts on the street, or little out of the way places. Pop and beer are generally available in bottles in the small places. When we take a boat to Las Animas, and eat luch at one of the shacks, we just order a bottled drink. As with any third world country, there is still is the opportunity to pick up a bug. But don't stay away from PV because you're worried about the water. You'll love it, and I can give you a list of good restaurants if you're interested. Adios.

Do Not Worry! I have lived here 7 years and only been sick ONE TIME and that was not from the water!!!!! It was from bad food at a very "high class" restaurant! I actually use the water from the tap in my house sometimes, but usually use bottled water, as we all do here. Hotels all have purified water. I can promise you that 99% of the tourists that get sick here are ill from too much tequila and too much sun....the combination is deadly! Pamela
I also live here and endorse what Pamela says 100%. I brush my teeth in tap water and have had no problems at all.
JR
