Get there early in the morning for best visibility....usually before 9:00am. A beautiful spot. Nice short walk from parking lot.

We've done it. It was clouded over when we got there even though we arrived early. We lingered around, and eventually the clouds lifted, and we were able to get a great view. There's also a lake you can hike to and a small museum. You could also do the La Paz Waterfall Gardens or the Doka Coffee Estate.

Thank you; this is good to know. What day did you go? We were thinking during the week; leaving the weekend for Tico's. It's nice to know about the waterfall gardens and coffee estate. We are so happy to get back to CR we can't wait!!
Any other little tid-bits about this place or your route you took to get there will be great. Thank you again for your input.

I don't think the day matters much. To me, it's more of a tourist destination. We did the coffee tour and Poas as part of a tour, so we didn't drive. Both are worth seeing though.

how far is Poas from san jose airport. Would you stay near the Poas Volcano or nearer to the La Paz waterfall for a nice place to stay for an evening and day in between Manuel Antonio and san jose airport.

We stayed at the Peace Lodge which is about an hour from San Jose. The waterfall gardens are right there on the grounds.
