Please help me, please please :)

Ok, me and my brother are planning on going on vacation for 2 weeks in August. I realize this is generally the worst month but we can't help it. So Between July 28th and August 20th we want to go. The thing is, I want to go somewhere where there is alot to do AND alot to see. All the posts I read and iteneraries I find are about going to see things, seeing monuments, seeing museums, seeing whatever. I would love to go and see ruins and artifacts but I dont want to spend 14 days seeing things. I would like to go somewhere where I can do things also. Like snorkeling, water skiing, hiking, climing, etc. My brother went to Beliz last summer and it kind of fit that description. But this summer we want somewhere new. It's either Europe or South America that we're going to go to. Can someone please help me, give me suggestions of countries and cities in those countries that I should go to that would fullfill my seeing and doing requirements. Thanks!

It's Mexico, but Playa del Carmen south of Cancun fits the bill perfectly.

Panama. Check out the postings on this board for some excellent suggestions of things to do (Boca del Toros, the San Blas Islands, Santa Clara beach, Canopy Tower jungle refuge, Panama City). Reasonably priced, excellent variety and very tourist friendly (feel free to drink the water). Buen viaje

I'm going to be hiking, canopy ziplining, white water rafting, kayaking, snorkeling, flyfishing, scuba diving and studying Spanish in Honduras this summer; let me know if you'd like more information. Great ruins, too, but I was in the western part of Honduras last summer.

I'm no expert, but "snorkeling, water skiing, hiking, climing, etc." sounds alot more like south american than europe, to me.

How about Mexico? as several others have mentioned. That really does fit what you are asking for perfectly imo.

The reason many itineraries you read here seem to be about monuments, museums, etc. are people who don't do that kind of a trip don't post an itinerary. Make sense?

Ahh suze, ur all over my posts...and i love it . I just wanted to thank everyone (maybe I'll make a new post and copy paste this) for all you're help. Some were much more helpful than others (suze u know what i mean) and let everyone know we've decided on Costa Rica.

To Hopefulist, I know everyone tells u thanks, but thanks. I know I got out vote on Honduras but all your posts/packing lists/advice really helped.

We dont leave till August 9th so I'm sure I'll be on here all the time asking questions till then,
like, Are the sockets the same or is it like Europe where u need a converter? lol. that one hit me today at work, oh and
can someone post a link to the solsomething (solomen?)Amphibian shoes, i searched under amphibian shoe and couldnt find a darn one. and are they good for hiking or do i need boots?

I bought my ticket today, $613, not too bad a deal i hope, i thought it was great.

Thanks again for all you guyses help, I'd be even more lost w/o u all!

OMG IM GOING TO COSTA RICA!!!!!!

Good for you, Liz - you'll just have to hit Honduras another trip. Here's a link to Salomon tech amphibs:

http://www.rei.com/online/store/Prod...cat=REI_SEARCH

and this is what I wear:

http://www.rei.com/online/store/Prod...ory_rn=4501270

They are sandals and do let the occasional stick or pebble in, but are more comfortable for me. You won't need more than Keens or Amphibs unless you're planning some really heavy-duty trekking, IMO. I just take my Keens (with a pair of light neoprene socks for high altitude hiking) and a pair of flipflops for showers and beaches.

Sockets are the same as US, though we've come across the occasional 2 prong socket.

Happy trails!
