I've always heard pharmaceuticals are cheep in Central America. Would I be better off buying Malaria pills there?? Specifically San Jose Costa Rica, rather then dropping $100 to $200 to get them here? I need Chloroquine (Aralen) or Mefloquine (Lariam) or Malarone. <BR>I know you have to take them a week ahead of time so I was thinking I could just buy two pills or so here in the States. <BR>

I agree. <BR>Malaria has been erradicated in most cities and towns in Central America. <BR>Your only chance is if your goign off the beaten track, deep into some jungles, and maybe you'll get something. <BR>Stop the paranoia, probably spreaded by pharmaceautical industry. <BR>FACT: Theres has been no case of malaria in Panama City for the last 30 years.

Yes, malaria pills are much cheaper in Costa Rica. 10 Aralen pills (250 mg.) cost $1.00 in Liberia! (no prescription needed). I'm not sure if it's legal to bring them back to the states though. Also, my doctor told me to take malaria pills 2 weeks prior. <BR> <BR>Have fun in C.R.

Joe, if you have a decent health plan you can get medicine for malaria through it. If you dont you can make an appointment through your localcity clinic or is it the board of health. I was born in Nicaragua and when I went back back after 3 years in The U S I contracted malaria. I think you must take them as needed or prescrived

I've taken marlaria pills before (for India, not CR) and you have to start them BEFORE you leave as previously mentioned. And, continue to take them after you return.<BR><BR>I didn't take them for CR.
