Palladium Grand Resort

Good Day All,
My wife and I are thinking of vacationing in the Cancun area, Playa Del Carmen, Tulum this November '03. We have been told about The Grand Palladium Resort and we were wondering if anyone has had the pleasure of staying at this relatively new resort. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I would also like to hear from anyone that has stayed at this resort recently. We stayed at the Bahia Principe Akumal last Feb. and absolutely loved it, but we saw the outside of this resort and thought it might be nice to try it on our next trip to Mexico. Any info you can give will be much appreciated.

We stayed at this resort in December 2002. Our overall impression was very good. The resort is large but attractively planned - trails wind through mangroves and forest. There is some walking to be done but I did not find it extreme (and I have arthritis). The beach is good - some rocks etc at entry just in front of resort pool but if you walk north about 100 feet entry is easy. Some snorkeling but nothing special. The food is good to excellent. Our only food disappointments were the quality of pasta dishes and we felt there were not enough Mexican dishes at the buffet - the guacamole was wonderful. The resort is very clean and well-kept. Staff are friendly and helpful. The main pool is gigantic and there are 2 additional smaller pools (one of which is adults only). Rooms were nice and well-cared for. Every room has a fidge (stocked with soft drinks and bottled water and beer about 3 times a week) and an ironing board and iron. I certainly don't hesitate to recommend the resort.

You can read reviews on this resort on several different websites. ramproductions.com or playaguide.com or tripadvisor.com

All reviews have been good to excellent. We are looking at this resort for a March '03 vacation. Another good choice, and I haven't totally ruled it out, is the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort.

my husband and I have stayed there twice last year. The food is very good and would recommed this resort very highly. There is alot of walking...thatsthe only draw back for someone who had a walking problem . but there are shortcuts once you learn your way around...

Re:JMM & towerlady -How bad is the rocks problem once you in the ocean ? Do we need water shoes ? We were spoiled at the Fiesta Palace in Punta Cana last year , great resort!( same co. that owns Palladium Grand ), stayed for two weeks and didn't find one single rock in water ! the sea bottom in front of those Fiestas in PC is velvety smooth and seaweed free .We'll be at Palladium this year in August. So far I heard good reviews on everything except for beach(?) Thanks for any infos you share.

Re: rock problem
As I said when we were there is was rockiest just in front of the main pool - where a lot of people congregate (closest to pool and bar and snack bar) BUT all you have to do is walk north for a little bit (about 100 feet) and entry is fine (and the area is less busy - easier to get shade and loungers). At this point on the beach - it gets rocky the further out you go - which did not bother me - since at the depth it got rocky I was swimming not walking. Ease of shore entry was more important since I have arthritis and stumble easily. I wore water shoes sometimes but my husband did not bother. I really do not consider the rockiness excessive but if a perfectly smooth sand bottom is important to you - you will be disappointed. The beach itself is quite nice - some trees, soft cool sand - Probably not as lovely as Punta Cana (I have not been but people have told me the beach there is really spectacular). To put it simply - the beach at the Palladium is most certainly not as nice as Punta Cana but it is still a pretty good beach and overall the resort is really quite excellent.
