Osa Questions for 1st Timer
This will be our 3rd trip to CR, and our first to Osa. From what we have read, we are in for a treat!
We have another couple going with us that have never been to CR and want to do Manuel Antonio also (we've been there once before) Is 5 nights 6 days enough time to do both? Here is our tentative itinerary:
Arrive SJO 1:45PM, rent car, drive to MA
Day 2: whitewater rafting/sightseeing
Day 3: Leave 7:40 am on Sansa for Puerto Jiminez
Day 4: Hiking/Rainforest
Day 5: Beach
Day 6: Leave at 7:00am or 9:00 (Sansa) for SJO to catch 3:00pm flight
Is it safe to fly to SJO the day of our departure flight?? Has anyone else done this? There are 3 flights out of PJ to SJO each day so surely we could catch the next one if something was delayed??
How hot is it in Osa in mid-November? My husband loves sleeping in a cold room. Can I convince him to pay $300/night for a place with no a/c?
We are looking at Bosque del Cabo- what activities/tours should we not miss?
The other couple going with us loves the beach- is it accessible from Bosque? Is it the kind of beach you can hang out at for an afternoon?
Thanks in advance!!

You will love the Osa, and Bosque del Cabo is a gorgeous and well run retreat. Please check with the hotel (perhaps you have already) regarding rainfall that time of year. I know September and October are extremely wet months (so much that it would seriously inhibit some activity), some of the hotels in that area close down even. I don't think BdC closes, but with November still considered rainy season. . .be sure you ask about that!

We are always quite comfortable at night at Bosque. Not cold but not horribly hot. Because of the way they are situated on the point, they have a pretty nice breeze most of the time.
Bosque is my favorite place! For a fee you can get a ride down and back to the beach from the lodge. You can also hike but it is about 1 1/2 hr to get all the way down. Lots of monkeys along the way as well as other things.
A lot of people have Bosque make them up a box lunch and they go down to the beach in the am before it gets super hot.
Bosque has lots of hiking to do and each trail is very different. Just sitting on the porch of your cabina in the afternoon is lovely. You might even think about renting one of the houses. Other things to do are pretty expensive because they involve a trip to town which adds to the expense.
We enjoy the kayaking which you can do from the beach near Bosque or from town, horseback riding is fun. Waterfall rapelling next door is exciting. Just learning about the birds from Eduardo or nature from Philip is really interesting. A massage! People can't believe how wonderful a massage you can get under the trees with monkeys flying around.
We were there for Thanksgiving last year. Nov is generally the transition month for that area. Rainy in the beginning but less as the month goes on. Last year, because of the strange weather patterns that brought us Katrina, Bosque and other areas of CR had more rain than usual but it dried out when we arrived. Hopefully it will be better this year. You might even think about sharing the cost of a house rental. Casa Miramar is awesome! Meals are not included with the house but you can purchase meals. If you wanted to cook a few meals you can stop in Pto Jimenez to shop on your way up to the lodge.
Do bring flashlights. There is electricity but the paths are still pretty dark even with the small lights they have.

We had a similar timed flight on Nature Air out of PJ, and our flight out of SJ was at 3:00 also. The Nature Air flight arrived on time, and we had plenty of time to go to the Marriott to pick up our bags, enjoy a relaxing brunch and sit by the pool. We went in March in the dry season, so not much problem flying then.
