OLD MAN ON A BIKE

Hi, I got home recently from a journey south from Veracruz, Mexico, to Tierra del Fuego, then north to New York. I chose a Honda 125 for the ride, spares available everywhere, economical and sufficiently light for me to lift after a fall. Aged 75, my strength isn't what it was - and, yes, I did fall! I tried to make the trip on a standard Brit pension - most countries I succeeded. For those interested, check my Blog at www.simongandolfi.com
Message me if I can help with specific advice.
Keep safe, have fun...

Simon,

Have not had the time, yet, to read your blog, but am looking forward to it. It is pertinent because I have a Son who is living outside a beach village south of Veracruz while he builds a boat with hand tools. He intends to do his own adventure down the coast when (and if) he finishes.

Anyway, the point of my reply is that you must be a courageous old fart (it takes one to know one) to ride one of those bikes, much less do it the length of a continent. My Son owns one almost like yours, and I got to ride on it while I was visiting him. Not much fun.

Between sand on the roadway, the terrible road conditions, crazy traffic, and those diabolical topes (speed bumps) that try to throw you into the ditch, your adventure seems a masochist's dream.

I look forward to your blog with great interest.

Simon,

You are about to ruin my marriage! I got hooked on your blog, and have been reading it almost nonstop since yesterday, much to the annoyance of DW. I have promised her I would do all sorts of mundane tasks today, and here it is almost noon and none of them are done.

I have followed your adventures as far as you and Ming entering Peru. I will finish, as long as I can ignore the rising tide of anger from my better half. It is a good read, and I can picture me on your bike -- except I will soon be 79, and don't know if I would have your resilience.

Simon,

I have finished as much of your blog as the spouse will allow, and enjoyed it thoroughly. Will you be publishing it as a book? I checked on Amazon.com, and saw your other books, but none on the old guy on a bike.

Thanks for a good read!

OLD MAN is published this coming week here in the UK by HarperCollins and by HarperCollins Australia on December 1. It is available on most amazons (uk, au, ca,fr, ie, etc) but not on amazon.com which is US because of licensing agreements.
Thank you for enjoying the BLOG.

And to anyone who happens to read this post. I don't do smiley faces, so the one that has been added to my post is courtesy of the moderators and I really resent it.
