As far as flying from Oaxaca Aerotucanne flys direct from Oaxaca City to Huatulco and Puerto Escondido (at least as of last summer)they fly a small Cessna Caravan to those locations in about 45 minutes or so. Mexico City is interesting but crazy nowadays, you can get from the airport to the Zocalo in about 1/2 and hours or so if the traffic is not bad. It is fascinating, but the pollution level can be high and security is an issue. One more thing- the last time I was in Oaxaca in August was I think 98. It was about 90 every day and o.k. at night. The beach, however was really hot. We went to Huatulco that year- had a great time, but had to be careful in the heat. I try to go to Oaxaca in the winter or early in June while it is still raining to get a nice temperature.

I can recommend a guide in Oaxaca. We used her for two days during our trip to Oaxaca in February. She is an American who has lived in Oaxaca for the last 30 years. She is a licensed guide who is extremely knowledgable in many different areas. She was recommendd to me by someone else and is also recommended on Rick Bayless' website (for the foodies among us). Going to Puebla at the end of the month for a short visit; however, after soaking-up your colorful web creation, I am now making plans to spend a week in Oaxaca in June. I'm just waiting to hear back from Casa de mis Recuerdos, re: availability. My poor husband----I've already "informed" him that Nora's cooking class will most definitely be on our agenda!
