Need PV hotel advice

My husband and I hope to travel to PV in December with our two children, 17 and 20. Looking for a hotel on a decent beach, near Old Town. "Kid friendly" scares me a bit, but we would like to be somewhere with easy access to lots of activities for older teens, the charm of Old Town, but optional solitude for Mom and Dad. We don't need anything big and fancy...just the perfect location!

Try Playa Los Arcos. Reasonable and convenient.

Ditto above. Hotel Playa Los Arcos sounds like what you are after. The Tropicana is another possibility in the same area.

By "kid friendly" I usually mean the malecon where in the outdoor theatre there is entertainment mostly for the young set. Old town is definitely for teens, young and old. Playa los Arcos, Tropicana, Suites Emperador all fit the bill.

Buenaventura is in the Hotel Zone, not the Old Town (south-side). Not a negative comment, just a clarification on location.

Thanks for the feedback. Not surprisingly, the places nearest Old Town PV are booked...will have to settle for NV, but will try to be more organized next time!

You could look in the Hotel Zone instead. It's not quite as "charming" as Old Town, but you would still be able to enjoy downtown every day.

I can't believe every hotel in all of the Hotel Zone is full!

Keep checking daily. WE arrived one year for New Years and everything supposedly was booked. When we got to PV there were several vacancies. Don't check with just one agency.

I ended up reserving at Villa del Palmar in the Hotel Zone, and am on a waiting list for the Hotel Tropicana. We'll just have to see how this plays out. Thanks everyone!

You're welcome! (I have a friend with a timeshare at Villa de Palmar, I've not been there, but she likes it fine.)

Hola JUUD: If you want to share your dates of travel in December and whether you already have your airline tickets, I will make some queries for you since I will be in PV in about a week. I have walked by the Tropicana a zillion times and have never been inside, so I am going to go in and ask about reservations.

blondlady, Tropicana doesn't mind if you want to sit by their pool and have a margarita or lunch from the little cafe. That's how I got in to see the place, without staying there, this past June. Or at least that was my experience.

Thanks Suze. I am going to go inside and see if it makes a difference if you go in person to try and get a reservation. Since they are on a waiting list, maybe the hotel holds some rooms open for "walk-ins." I think the Villa Del Palmar the poster has signed up for is in a better location than Nuevo since they to do activities.

JUUD,
I just reserved a room in old town PV for Christmas- New years at Hotel San Marino.
I did the same thing that you have done by calling the hotels directly. I found that Travelocity, Orbitz etc. Have a block of rooms booked and sold out.
I came across a Mexican site Price-Travel.com that does the same thing. Only they had not already sold all of their block of rooms as of today.
Playa Los Arcos and San Marino and others still have vacancies through that site.
Hope that helps. We are going with our17 and 23 yr old kids

I can't tell from the posts if people are only working thru general hotel booking websites, but one tip is to call the hotel's front desk directly. Or use their specific website. As they may have room they hold for their own direct reservations.

I called the hotels diretly and was told that they had no rooms. They told me to call Orbiz, Travelocity, etc. They all told me that they were sold out also. Then I found Price-Travel.com and was able get one of the rooms that they had bought a block of.
Hope this helps.
