need info- Macchu Picchu
Hello All!
I am trying to visit Macchu Picchu in August- is this time of year okay?
Also, I will be travelling from Santiago and need to be there on as quick a trip as possible- what is the fastest way to go about the trip? Can I fly straight into Macchu Picchu? Any suggestions on economical tour guides/companies? Airlines from Chile? Thanks SO much for your time and information-Leslie

Hi,
we just got back from Machu Picchu. This is the dry season now so it's a great time to go.
The only way to Machu Picchu is by train from Cuzco. there are no roads or planes to Machu Picchu.
Trains run up in early morning and you can return that afternoon but if you can stay over one night it would be better. From the train station, you have to take a shuttle but to the site. It is all very well organized and they are all very professional about everything...it is definitely worth seeing. roundtrip shuttle bus is $12 and entry to site is around $25...you can get a guide at the site or "self" tour....have fun...KSC

Closest airport is Cusco, which you'd reach from Santiago with a change of planes in Lima. LanChile/LanPeru would probably be your best bet for airlines. Nearly all flights from Lima to Cusco are in the morning.

That I know, the helicopter flights to MP are not presently operating. I'll be there next month. I'll be anxious to see if they're running, but I kind of doubt it. (Lestergirl, maybe we'll run into each other.)
