Month Long Vacation Rental- But where?
I'm considering a month long stay somewhere in Central America in July with my wife and two boys (8 and 4). Here's the type of place we are looking for:
1) Quite but not extremely remote. Doesn't need to have extreme night-life, but it would be nice if there were a few decent restaurants.
2) Nice beaches with good Snorkeling/Scuba.
3) Reasonable internet connectivity (I'd love to unplug for an entire month, but it's just not possible).
4) I'd prefer not to have to have a car (walk to get groceries, etc.).
5) Month rental for under 2K.
On the beach is the weather brutal in July? Should we make sure to get a place with A/C?
Thanks in advance!

I doubt you'll find anything suitable in Guatemala - it is just not known for its beach options. The Bay Islands of Honduras would be a good bet. Belize is nice, too, but in general more expensive. Any of the beach areas will be hot enough in July that I would want ac.
We prefer to spend extended stays on Lake Atitlán in Guatemala - it's like spring all year there. If you decide to consider it, let us know - we have an apartment in San Pedro La Laguna that friends rent out when we're not there and we're spending July in the UK this year, heading to San Pedro next week and again in the fall.
Hope you find what you're looking for!

In Belize, I can't think of any place that will satisfy all your requirements.
Placencia will satisfy most, but the best snorkelling is on the reef which is a 45-minute boat ride away.
San Pedro is another good choice, but again, the best snorkelling is on the reef -- at least it's closer than 45 minutes.
Too bad you didn't include Mexico in your list of countries.
It will be hot all the time, and I think you will not enjoy sleeping without an a/c.

In Mexico, Puerto Morelos (between Cancun and Playa del Carmen) might suit you best.
Mahahual might be OK, but maybe too remote for you.
Tulum, maybe.
You might have to negotiate for the price you want.
