Mexico for 3 weeks, a short report

I hope this info can help someone as I had so much help from this forum. Not my usual TR but as my sister is going next year, I wanted to jot down some info I thought she may find helpful. I didn't add Puerto Vallarta as she isn't going there, but I will add shortly if anyone needs it.
Places visited:

· Mexico City (CDMX)
· Puebla
· Oaxaca
And Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita

General:

· Aero Mexico was a great airline, reasonably priced, on time and nice to fly.
· We flew LAX to PV with AA.
· PV to CDMX with Aero Mexico.
· Oaxaca to CDMX with Aero Mexico.
· CDMX to LAX via Phoenix AA.
· Ubers are crazy cheap in CDMX & Puebla, not available at all in Oaxaca.
· Taxis are okay but get a price before getting in.
· Great bus travel between towns.
· We found https://www.estrellaroja.com.mx/ fantastic, it was like business class on a plane. We also did https://www.ado.com.mx/ but not nearly as nice but as we had no choice, it was fine.
· Mexico is noisy, like all the time. Music comes out of every business.
Mexico City
On arrival for 3 nights, we stayed in the Condesa district.
Really enjoyed it, did a great food tour from here, of the Colonia Roma district. It was fantastic, we ate so much food visiting over 6 different places.

We stayed at the Red Tree House and can not recommend it enough. Apart from lovely rooms, the attentive hosts were fantastic. Great breakfast cooked to order and evening drinks. Which we really liked as we picked up lots of tips and tricks from other guests. https://www.theredtreehouse.com/

We also did a day tour from here which was good but unfortunately it was Spanish and English, just took too long to cover it all ‘twice’. Just make sure its English only.

We departed CDMX by bus with the help of the hosts, but really easy. Uber back to airport, the big bus station is there. Just make sure the driver knows you want the bus station. Our host did this for us.

The second time in CDMX we stayed at https://casadelaluz.mx/ in the Historical centre for 3 more nights. Beautiful building, great room. Very ‘Mexican’ in that its all very internal and historic. Close enough to the Zocalo (main square) to walk but a good distance. We arrived into the square on a Sunday and it was madness. The next day was fine, great old HUGE cathedral.
We felt like a change and ate at an Italian place, close to the square. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaura...ulf_Coast.html
We had the most amazing lunch at https://www.masalaymaiz.com/ the food was the best we had but the wine at about $40aud a glass!!!!

Decided the only way to get into the Frida Kahlo Museum was with a tour, as we hadn’t booked early enough. https://www.viator.com/tours/Mexico-...g/d628-86240P4
Although we enjoyed the walk through the market and lunch there, we felt we didn’t need to be part of a tour. As the guide doesn’t go with you to the museum and its super easy to do on your own. I managed to watch the Netflix Doco, Frida (2020) the night before and it made the tour redundant. I learnt so much about her from the Doco.

We had some lovely treats from https://www.instagram.com/panaderiarosetta/ unfortunately we’d had our splurge meal, so didn’t go to her restaurant.
Puebla
We stayed at https://laperlahotelboutique.com/en/home/ for 3 nights, great hotel quite funky. The staff weren’t amazing, not very attentive, this was the only place we didn’t have breakfast included. Great location, bit noisy as we directly above a pedestrian street that had markets most days. But fun.
Nice and close to El Parian Markets
The Zocalo
The Museo de la Revolucion (the building with the bullet holes)
Alley of the Frogs (colorful street)

While in Puebla we used an Uber to go and visit both towns of Cholula and Atlixco. An absolute highlight. It was crazy cheap, like under $20 to get out there.

Oaxaca
Although the bus wasn’t as nice this time, the drive was amazing. Just kept going up through some awesome mountains. The scenery was spectacular.

Another fantastic location to stay https://paradordealcalaoaxaca.mx/ so handy to everything.
We did the best tour of the trip. https://www.viator.com/tours/Oaxaca-...50491-195640P5 Learnt heaps and lots of time to explore and climb….
The highlight was always going to be the https://www.oaxacking.com/ food tour. I’d followed this guy on Instagram before going, so knew it was going to be good. It was, I seriously had to say no to some food, there was just so much.

Got a cab out to Santa Maria del Tule, really nice little town, very pretty.
