Having been to both, no question PV is for me! But as for you, if you want more of a dry desert landscape, Maz it is. If you want lush tropical foliage covering gorgeous mountains as your backdrop, head to PV. Both have the hotels, shopping and nightlife, but IMHO, PV has more ambiance.

Also have been to both destinations, and I also agree, it's PV, no question.

Mazatlan 5 times, P. Vallarta 3 times.<BR>Love both. Mazatlan is less dependent on tourists, more like a real town. Shrimp capital of Mexico, food is amazing. P.V. noisier, busier, more crowded, more gourmet restaurants, better shopping. PV is like Los Angeles, Mazatlan is &quot;midwestern&quot;

Attention JR;<BR> I looked over http://vallarta-info.com/rentlo.html but theres not exactly an abundance of choice;just a few places. I would not consider anything without a swimming pool and something that did look good was 30 minutes away from the centre of things. Plus I know nothing of that area. Another I would have been interested in is asking a fortune during winter months of over $1000 US per week. Any other sites to look for rentals. There has to be others? Thanks

No personal experience, I have a lovely hovel all to myself, so I've never stayed anywhere else. The rentals on those pages are all from people I know, so I trust them. The couple of condos on Los Muertos beach are pretty well booked through March, but the owners do know other people in the buildings and maybe able to accommodate you. Casa Andrea is very nice and there are some cheaper type hotels in that same area, Los Muertos beach.

For Patti again... Many of the downtown hotels rent monthly, have swimming pools and some units with kitchenettes. Casa Andrea as mentioned by JR is lovely (see is at www.casa-andrea.com) and ~$500US a week gets you a pretty 1 bedroom with a full kitchen, and beautiful courtyard with pool. Like a private home. I've stayed there several times.<BR><BR>Since you know nothing of the area (as you said above) I'd recommend (as a person who's spent some 15 vacations in PV) you book something for a week and go down in person and stop in at a local real estate office.<BR>
