Hi,

Has anyone recently flown LAN Peru within Peru? Do you know what the check-in luggage allowance is like?

Their website states different luggage allowances depending on whether you're only flying domestic or in combination with an international flight. Do you know what qualifies as international flight? If we're flying from the U.S. but on American Airlines (not LAN Peru), could we qualify for the international luggage allowance amount when we fly LAN domestically?

Please share your recent experiences with LAN. Thanks!

If you have this trip issued all on one ticket, you should qualify for the international allowance on the domestic Peruvian portion of your trip.

Example: Fly AA, USA to Lima and LAN, Lima to Cusco, with a same-day connection in Lima. That should all be looked at as in International ticket.

Same in reverse: LAN, Cusco to Lima, connecting same day to AA, Lima to USA.

But if you're breaking your journey, maybe staying in Lima a few days before flying elsewhere in Peru, or adding other domestic LAN flights to your itinerary, then the domestic allowance kicks in. You've "broken" the international segment of your trip.

Even if you somehow end up limited to the lowest allowance I see there (20 kg), that's 44 pounds. That really is quite a bit if you stop and think about it.

You're right, Jeff! I'd misread their rules and thought I could only have an 8kg of carry-on.

What you can check and what you can carry on are two different issues.

I don't know a thing about Lan, and what type of planes they fly, but is it possible that luggage allowances are different because the internal flights are on much smaller planes?

We were told last week that LAN had dropped its domestic limit to 18 kilos.

My husband and I flew LAN in March to Peru/Ecuador - view their website and pack according to their restrictions when you leave the states - just makes it easier. Their website is kept updated.
