Lake Atitlan in luxury
Having made several trips to Guatemala, we always try to include some time in Lake Atitlan. We have found Casa Palopo one of the best places (a bit expensive) to rest and relax.

hopefulist & volcanogirl, received several emails from friends who live in villages around Lake Atitlan and they tell me the rains from a recent tropical storm has caused a number of mudslides and destruction as well as loss of life to villagers. So sorry to hear about such things, these are wonderful people and have so little and then to lose so much.

Yes - natural disasters always affect the most marginalized families most. Here's a thread I started last week about donating:

I've been sending down donations that come my way every 3 or 4 days to my friend Mynor in San Pedro La Laguna who is on the local committee that is working on the relief efforts. He sent a really optimistic email this morning because yesterday afternoon's meeting was very productive - lots of local businesses pitching in, groups working together, plans falling into place. I'm looking forward to a quick visit in July.
