Isla Mujeres
Would like info on day trips to Isla Mujeres. Should you take an organized tour or can we do this on our own? Where is the best place to snorkel and what is the name of the great seafood restaurant on the beach? How do you figure out the bus system in Cancun. We are staying at the Westin. Thank you.

You can take the ferry to Isla Mujeres. It's about a 45-minute trip and costs around $20 USD per person. You don't have to take a guided tour. I've been there twice and just wandered around the island on my own. You meet the ferry back at the dock at 5pm. Gives you the whole day to explore, rent a moped, snorkel, etc.

The public bus in Cancun will take you to the downtown dock where you catch the ferry. There are signs everywhere throughout the Hotel Zone that point you to where to catch buses. So easy.

Can't recommend any seafood restaurants as I ate at hole in the wall Mexican restaurants. Found the best quesadillas I ever ate. All in all, a worthwhile trip!

I can't remember the cost of the ferry, but it certainly wasn't $20 US/person - maybe $2? At any rate, it was very low. We ate at a place called Chimbo's - it was a large palapa style restaurant on Playa Norte - we were there a week and had lunch there several times.

Yes do take the public ferry. Take city bus to puerto Juarez?? I think that is where it was just ask bus driver he'll know. Ferry is no way 20 maybe 4 or less if you take slow ferry. As for snorkeling walk the beach many locals happy to take you out on a tour. We met a great guy that way lots of interesting stories and a great sense of humor. Rent a moped or golfcart and see the island. Loads of fun..
