American citizens do need a Visa to get into Brazilian territory, same as Brazilian citizens need a Visa to get into the USA., no matter if they are flying from South America or crossing the Mexican or Canadian borders.

Good luck and regards,

S

So, if you mean to visit the Brazilian side, get yourself a visa before boarding, or if you don't have the time, try to get it in Argentina, at the Brazilian consulate or embassy there

I have heard that it is possible to find taxi drivers who know how to get you across to Brazil without a visa.

When we went Brazil -> Argentina -> Brazil a few weeks ago, Argentina checked our passports but Brazil didn't.

Well, JP, you might have been lucky, or the personnel at the immigration, too laxed, but this is not the rule-- the policy is that Americans shall have a visa to enter Brazilian territory. If Nan wants to risk, up to her. I wouldn't risk to enter the US through the Mexican border without a visa... Besides, if something happens, how much trouble would one have to deal with? And the extra expenses and all the annoyance?

Be careful re Brazilian visas . Suggest you seek advice from your nearest Brazilian consulate. Their visas are uncommonly expensive; even children require one. Many restrictions re 90 days, etc. Also, do not lose the emigration permit on entry as leaving without will be $100 US per. Have fun!
