I am also curious about the differences between the Iberostar resorts in Playa del Carmen. (Paraiso Beach/Paraiso del Mar and the Tucan/Quetzal) Would like any comments and/or comparisons from those who have stayed there. Thx.

I was there January 2000. Overall, I'd say it's a very nice place. The lobby is gorgeous, the grounds are beautiful, the rooms are spacious and clean with small balconies, though nothing fancy.

The food ranged from fair to very good-always a lot to choose from. The pre-mixed frozen drinks were disappointing.

The beach is nice, but small. It was too windy to swim most of the time we were there, so we used the pool more - which is also beautiful. The pool area gets crowded, so it is often hard to find places to sit.

There are plenty of activities during the day- water aerobics, dance lessons, scuba lessons, volleyball, ping pong, etc. There are also plenty of tour operators on-hand to arrange any trips you may want to take.

There is some sort of show every night - singing/dancing - game shows with guests - magic shows etc, though I'd have to say you wouldn't be missing anything if you never went. There was a disco that opened at 11:00pm each night that we never made it to.

If you decide to go-have a great time!

We've stayed at Iberostar properties other than Mexico and found them wonderful but wanted specifics. Which Iberostar hotel are you commenting on? There are 2 properties/ 4 hotels in the area.

I was commenting on the Tucan/Quetzal property. They are really the same place- just two different sides of the same hotel with slightly different decor.

I am not familiar with the Paraiso properties.
