Hurrah - a Peace Lodge Update

Hi, guys - I just got an e-mail from the Peace Lodge updating me on their status. It says the gardens will be open June 13 and the hotel itself will be open by July 1. I thought someone had posted that the gardens were already open, but this is direct from the Peace Lodge. I'm happy they're getting back on their feet. It's a favorite spot of ours.

I think I am going back down in November (two trips in 8 months - yeah!!) so I am definitely going to visit the gardens and check out those swarms of hummingbirds. I had planned to visit it on my February trip, but....Mother Nature had other ideas.

Thanks, VG!

It's one of my favorites too! That's good news on all counts, that means the roads are being fixed!

Happy travels, everyone! Colibri, I can't wait to hear what you think about the hummingbirds there. Feeding them is so amazing.

I can't wait either, VG! I've seen so many photos from Peace Lodge that people have posted of the hummingbirds there. I'm waiting for Earth University to confirm dates for my visit there, hoping to go to Rancho Naturalista and Savegre Mountain Lodge after that for hummingbird heaven!

It's funny because someone just started a post in the lounge saying why they don't want to go to Costa Rica. I guess I didn't get it entirely either until we went, and then we were hooked!

ah man, Isabelle loves it there. Wish I could have known that as she will be with us July 6-16. She's asked about it several times; anxious to see Hunter the cat and be assured that he is alive and well!

By what means have some of you travelled to Peace Lodge... my husband has driven before but on this solo trip I have not decided about renting a car. What are some of the other options?

We hired a driver through the Peace Lodge to pick us up at the airport. He was there waiting for us when we got off the plane. It's only about an hour away from SJO. It's a pretty drive.

Peace Lodge website has finally been updated with re-opening plans, changes in trails, unfinished projects. Rates through April 30, 2010 will remain the same as they were in 2009.

rivet -- I used a company called Vantrans but came from Arenal, stayed 2 nights, and then went to SJO. It wasn't cheap though, if I remember correctly it cost about $120 total, but I can't say for sure. I remember reading somewhere the taxi from SJO was about $50 each way.

rivet, another option is by private driver as well. I always use Alberto, he lives in SJO but works for Bosque del Cabo. I think his price was $60 one way to/from PL, that was a couple years ago not sure if that's gone up. If you need his email let me know. He & his asst Carlos are real sweethearts (they would probably cringe at that term, let me say they're very very nice, lol).

I think we paid $50 or $55 by booking our ride through the Peace Lodge. I like staying there at the end of a trip because it puts you pretty close to SJO without having to stay in SJO.

Just curious, has anyone been back to the Gardens yet? If you do, will you post back and let us know how things look?

I have a reservation at the Peace Lodge for 7/1 and 7/2 and I just received an email letting me know the villa that I was going to stay in would not be ready. They are providing my family of 6 with a standard and deluxe room at the same cost. Not the ideal situation but it is only for two nights.

What a shame, Nords - were you going to stay in the Monarch Villa?
