How to get from Tamarindo to San Juan del Sur Nicaragua

What is the best way to travel from Tamarindo to San Juan Del Sur? Are there any other towns that are nice to travel to from Tamarindo besides, Monteverde, Arenal, ?

Head to Liberia up to the border

Cross to Rivas then SJDS Hot dodgy dusty like Mango Rosa there

if you surf might be worth doing otherwise do not bother.

hotelcolonialgranada.com best place in Nica on the lake.

Might consider heading up there.

From Tamarindo, take a bus to Liberia. From Liberia, you have two choices:

1. Take the TicaBus or one of the other international buses that make a stop in Liberia. They will stop just north of the traffic light on the PanAmerican Highway - there's a McDonalds there and El Bramadero restaurant and hotel. Get off your bus from Tamarindo at the traffic light. TicaBus has a website you can check. Look for buses from San Jose and add four hours and this is approximately when they will arrive in Liberia.

2. From the bus station in Liberia, take the public bus to Penas Blancas, go through Costa Rican immigration, walk across the border, go through Nicaraguan immigration (you will have to pay something like $8 or $10) and catch the bus for Rivas or San Juan del Sur or Managua or Granada. If you take any of the buses other than to San Juan del Sur, tell the driver where you are going and he will let you off where the road turns off the PanAm Highway to go to San Juan del Sur. Here, you can get another bus or van collectivo. You can also get off the bus in Rivas and take a bus to San Juan del Sur.

The international buses are more expensive but a lot nicer with AC and toilet on board.

And, no, there are no other nice towns in all of Costa Rica besides Tamarindo. !!!!! (Sarcasm, Sheldon) What a question!!! I don't even think Tamarindo is a nice town, but that's just me.
