I was in Mexico (Cancun/Cozumel)7 years ago. Before I recommend it to a friend, I was curious whether it has been rebuilt since the hurricanes. Are there any parts of Mexico that are no longer a good destination? TIA

I went to Cancun on May/06.
95% of the area has recovered, there are still signs of the hurricane (hotels in reconstruction, buildings w/o facade, etc). The beaches are gorgeous and ready to receive visitors.

Just returned from Riviera Maya, MX, south of Cancun. We saw some rebuilding, and some areas that still had trees down, but for the most part, we didn't see any thing to indicate that any hotels, businesses were not up and running because of damage. We went to Playa del Carmen, and inland to Chichen Itza. It is all looking good!

Cozumel is up, running and better than ever. The deep reefs for diving are in great shape. The shallow reefs for snorkeling took a lot of abuse. The town is perfect.

The Riviera Maya region centered around Playa del Carmen south of Cancun was not hit nearly as hard by Wilma and has been fine for months and months now already. The only possible real exception to this that people may spot if they're interested in it is thinner foliage. However it was lush before, so "thinner" is a relative term, there.

Keep in mind that at least in this area, it would be difficult not to catch sight of multiple construction projects, maybe one on the beach here, some from the highway, some in town, etc. However that means nothing with respect to hurricane damage, and should not be interpreted as being due to hurricane damage. New projects and renovations are ongoing, hurricanes or no hurricanes.
