Hotel Costa Verde, Manuel Antonio
We are a party of 5, me, the husband, 2 kids(10 & 13) and grandma and we are looking for some-not deluxe-but clean and comfortable lodging. Does anyone know anything about Hotel Costa Verde? One of the bungaloos sounds perfect for our group but he price is so reasonable I'm concerned.
Thanks,
Misty

Hi Faithie,
I guess I'd be interested in one of the bungaloos, A9 or A13. Are you familiar with these units? I'm having a hard time finding availability for Feb 22 - 25 for the five of us. Any other information you have on hotels would be so appreciated.
Thanks again,
Misty

I would have absolutely no hesitation to stay at either .... A-9 is the bigger , literally looks like a beautiful villa , the little pool for the "A " area is just a few steps below . A-13 is nice as well as A-11 .....

Don't feel too bad Appletree and Missypie. I tried to book CV back in January, but they told me at Christmas there was a 5 night minimum.
I even offered to compromise and pay for one extra night since we could only stay in MA 3 nights, but they said " NO,5 nights firm, not 4!!! Left me feeling uncomfortable. OH well.............they certainly didn't care!!

Hey, thanks for all the feed back! I feel very fortunate that we could get the A-9 unit and we can do the 5 night minimum. I'm booking now for Feb. and I've been finding little availablity. Sooooooo, now where should we eat? Any great authentic Costa Rican restaurants we should check out?

Hello, we stayed at the Costa verde-II in June and it was the best hotel we stayed at in Costa Rica. It was GREAT! The rooms are big and clean and the balcony had the best view of M.A. and the ocean.I would live in that room. Resteraunts are great also.

We stayed at HCV about 2 years ago and had a terrific time. Our room was downhill about 50 yards from the checkin (in an old railroad coach) and the restaurant, with its own pool. There is no beach right at the hotel, but the beach at Manuel Antonio is only a short (and cheap) bus ride away - close enough that we walked there several times, so it might be a mile. The main restaurant served great breakfast; for dinner, try the open-air barbeque place directly across the road. At the top of the hill, about 100 yards away from the HCV entrance is a bar (I believe owned by HCV) made out of one of Ollie North's old airplanes that was used in the Iran-contra business. If you believe the tale, this one was shot down near the Nicuraguan border, later bought by the hotel and shipped by boat to Costa Rica, then trucked up the hill.
By the way, the best way to get to HCV is to fly from San Jose into Quepos, then taxi or bus to the hotel. The roads are terrible - potholes the size of Kansas - which makes driving after dark quite hazardous.
Quepos itself isn't much of a town, tho there is one outstanding seafood restaurant. Sorry, can't recall the name but try the NY Times Travel section archives; they published a very comprehensive guide a few years ago that was very helpful to us.
A visit to the Manuel Antonio Nacional Park is worthwhile - go to the end of the bus line in Manuel Antonio, then continue walking down the beach. You can enter the park by crossing a small tidal basin - walkable at low tide, but at high tide there is a man there with a boat who will carry you across (about 15 yards!) for a few colones, or about 25 cents. Your choice - grandma might want the boat ride, the kids may want to wade/swim across.
Enjoy!
