Honeymoon: Placencia in Belize or Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica?

My fiance and I have narrowed down our honeymoon destinations to Costa Rica or Belize, but we can't seem to get any further than that.

About us: we love the outdoors and nature/wildlife. We want a combination of relaxing on the beach and adventurous activities. Placencia in Belize and the Osa Peninsula in CR seem to match these interests. Suggestions?

IMO you can't beat Bosque del Cabo in the Osa. Nature, wildlife, wonderful staff & owners, great food, a wonderful all-around ambience.

What month will you be traveling? This would help in suggestions.

Also have you narrowed the field on lodging options and still just debating the two countries?

And which side of the Osa are you considering - Gulf or Pacific?

I agree with Tully that BdC is a totally amazing place.

Belize is still on the to do list.

It seems that you need to narrow your options a bit further. Is snorkeling a big priority - then Belize. Not that you can't snorkel in CR, but as you know the Pacific does not make for the best snorkeling.

Is hiking in a lush rainforest that touches the ocean a priorty? Then Bosque del Cabo for sure!!!

If lazing away on a beach just steps from your door is a priority then understand that most beaches in the Osa Pen are a hike away - however there are some options. The time we visited Bosque del Cabo, we split our time between BdC and Iguana Lodge, then ended back in the Central Valley for a few days, this made a wonderful trip.

And one other thing - how long do you have. I don't think I would lock myself into just one location in either country. Try two at the minimum.

OK I wasn't through! The views from BdC are completely breathtaking. The abundance of wildlife and birds that trek through and fly over BdC are totally amazing. And ditto on everything Tully said!

We had a great time at La Paloma in the Osa. Click on my name to find my review. I think a honeymoon there in one of the secluded cabins would be great, a 3 night stay is great.

Hi there,

I got married and had my honeymoon in Costa Rica. We stayed at Grano d'Oro, Corcovado Tent Lodge in the Osa and the Peace Lodge. I can't say enough wonderful things about the tent lodge. My email addy is [email protected] if you care for further info or pics.
