Honeymoon
I was hoping someone could give me any advice on where to go for my honeymoon. I was thinking maybe mexico, I am basically keeping my options open, money is also an issue, there is not much of it. Anyway, any suggestions on a good but cheap honeymoon.

Hi Jessica,
You say you want an economical honeymoon but you didn´t say at what time of year or where you are flying from...these things have a direct bearing on costs. I operate a Agua Azul la Villa B&B in Huatulco, Oaxaca, Mexico and would be happy to answer any questions you may have about Huatulco.
We can recommend restaurants and activities to suit most budgets and depending where you would be coming from we can possibly recommend the cheapest route.
Good luck
Brooke

Hi Jessica,

First off CONGRATULATIONS. I'm not sure how limited your funds are. My wife and I went to a place in Cancun called the Moon Palace. It is all inclusive and I mean all inclusive. The only money I spent was on trinkets for family members and friends. I actually had a bartender look at me in sheer horror when I tried to tip him. The majority of the people there are on their Honeymoon. Use the search engine "google.com" and punch in Moon Palace. It should give you all the details you need. One minor detail, people are always trying to sell you time shares. It's no biggy, but you should be warned. I cannot say enough good things about this place. If you have further quetions please feel free to e mail me. Good Luck!

hi, in october you are going to be hitting the tail end of the hurricane season, so i hesitate to recommend my favorite beach towns _ chances are you wouldn't run into one, but personally i try to avoid the coast in sept., oct and early november. the interior of mexico has some beautiful romantic towns _ oaxaca, san miguel de allende, cuernavaca and guanajuato come to mind _ and you could probably find a small b&b that would be lovely and inexpensive. if you really are thinking beach, i know that a lot of people like all-inclusives, but i have always found them very expensive, especially if you would be just as happy in a moderate, independent hotel and having meals at the wonderful smaller restaurants that are everywhere in the touristed areas. congratulations and good luck!

Jessica, I live in Toronto also. We're really fortunate here - there are so many charters out of Toronto.

Mexico is probably the least expensive of the destinations in Latin America. If you're going for a week, you probably don't want to spend all your time travelling to get there. That means a direct flight. Then your next decision will be whether you want a package (air + hotel OR air + hotel + meals) or you just want to book a flight and make your own hotel arrangements. I don't like AI, but I have booked packages with air and hotel before when they seem like a good deal and it's where I want to go. Most of the time, I just book my flight and book my own accommodation. There's so much on the internet these days. If you haven't done so already, you should pick up all the brochures put out by Canada 3000, Sunquest, Conquest, etc. to get an idea of where they go and what sounds good to you. (They also have websites.)

Flying into Cancun is good for us in Toronto - it's less than 4 hours away. I don't like Cancun myself, but I do like the area south, around Playa del Carmen. There are loads of nice hotels down there. Some big hotels, but also nice little places which are relatively inexpensive. Cozumel is also very nice, especially if you like to snorkel or dive.

The one problem with Mexico at that time of year is that it is still hurricane season. We were down there a few years ago in October and just got out a few days before the hurricane - it still meant a lot of rain.

One area that's really nice is Zihuatanejo. It's beside Ixtapa, so you may see that in the brochures. Zihuatanejo has some really lovely small properties. It's a slightly longer flight than Cancun would be. But I think that the weather in Zihuatanejo is more consistent (more reliably good). We stayed in a bungalow there about 2 blocks from the beach. Because we had a kitchen, we were able to have our breakfasts there, sometimes lunches and go out for dinner every night. Wonderful restaurants in the area. I remember having massages on the beach, really inexpensive and wonderful.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.

Hi Jessica,

Please check out our web sites for a romantic, beachfront villa, Casa Tropical near Tulum Mexico. We are located about 1 hour south of Cancun, 3 miles north of the Tulum ruins. Our area is very beautiful, quiet and not touristy at all. More for travelers interested in beautiful beaches, quaint restaurants, Maya culture, and romance.

You can visit our web sites below for pictures and info, or feel free to call or email with any questions about Casa Tropical or the Tulum area.

Best regards,

Carole
Casa Tropical
570-247-7065
http://CasaTropical.com
http://sites.netscape.net/tankah3g/casatropical (Summer/Fall specials listed here)
