Honduras and ???

Hello Fellow Travelers: My volunteer work will take me to Tegucigalpa, Honduras. I'm reading some archives here on Fodors.com and leaning toward extending my stay for one week of Spanish Schooling. Do you have any suggestions for schools in Honduras? Also, if I get REALLY lazy and decide just to vacation and not enroll in a course, what sites would you recomend in Honduras? Culture, beautiful sights, city life, walks or light hikes are of great interest. Water sports, museums and R & R are not of interest. Thanks for your thoughts. Andy

YES - great idea! Check out the Ixbalanque school in Copán Ruinas: www.ixbalanque.com . I studied there for 2 weeks in 2005, my son for 3 weeks in 2006 (learned enough to waive a full year of college Spanish!), and last summer I returned for 2 weeks with a group in tow - all great experiences.

I really love the school, the town is lovely, the ruins beautiful, and there's lots of great hiking in the area. Check out my photos and travelogues below (travelogue and blog links on the main page of each collection). And if you contact the school, be sure to tell Amadea and Kathy (the directors) Stacey from Oregon says hi and misses them. Happy trails!

PS I enjoyed the Central American Spanish School in La Ceiba, too, though I'm not much of a city person and it's HOT there. It's a great jumping off point for the Bay Islands (which might not interest you) and there are great mountain and wetland activities in the area: hiking, rafting, kayaking, horseback riding, mountain biking (see link above).

Just a comment, for a nice day trip from Tegus while you are there- El Valle de los Angeles is really pretty and a break from the city. Likewise be careful in Tegus.
