Home base in Costa Rica?

My family is planning a one-week trip to Costa Rica in June or July, and we'd like to rent a house on a beach and use it as a base for various day trips. My initial choice was Flamingo, but I'm wondering if it's too far from other areas we'd like to visit like Manual Antonio and Arenal. Are the drive times too long to stay in Flamingo? Should we choose a more central location, and if so, where would you suggest? Our only "requirement" is that we want to stay within walking distance of a nice beach. Thanks!

You would do better to divide your time between

Arenal 3-4 hours away from Flamingo

and Flamingo or other Nicoya beach of your choice.

www.mapcr.com have a look at a map distances

are too far to do what you propose.

You might consider staying in Manuel Antonio at Tulemar Bungalows or Buena Vista Villas and then spending a few days in Arenal - day trips aren't practical.

Thanks for the replies--it looks like we might extend our visit by a day or two and stay in two different places. I can't say I'm disappointed to have to stay longer, ha ha!

Hi - Several groups have used Villa Cabomar in Puntarenas as a base for day trips to Costa Rica destinations including Monte Verde, Manuel Antonio, Jaco, Arenal, etc. The villa has three air conditioned bedrooms, a patio with spa and the rate includes full breakfast 6 days a week and housekeeping. You have access to the kitchen for other meals. It's a 2 minute walk to the beach. The rate is $198 a night and there's a discount of 10% if you book more than 7 nights.
