Help with Mexico Itinerary

We are going to Mexico for 8 days the first of September, spending 4 days in Mexico city. My fist idea was to spend the remainder in Guanjuato, but now I'm thinking maybe Puerto Vallarta or some other beach area. What do you all suggest? Guanajuato, or?

Early Sept the beach areas will still be very hot and humid, I would prefer Guanajuato or San Miguel or something higher in elevation that time of year.

As above, I agree I'd skip the beach idea only because of your month of travel. It's rainy season, hot and humid, on the coast.

You could stop in Queretaro for an overnight on your way from DF to Guanajuato. Queretaro is quite charming. And Guanajuato is a really wonderful.

Have fun!

Gunajuato is a beautiful place, we spent two days there last February. However in those ,well two and one half days,we exhausted every possible sight to visit. I'd suggest two days in San Miguel-we missed it but hope to get there soon.

I agree with Patrick. Check out san miguel. I have been there several times with my family and several times with just my wife, and it is always a nice getaway. www.sanmigueldeallendemexico.com has some good info on hotels and restaurants in san miguel de allende in case you consider going.
