Gran Porto Real Resort Playa del Carmen

This is evidently a newer resort. Anyone have any comments on this place. Looking for a 5-star luxury resort with wonderful pool, spacious elegant rooms, great service, food...and not crazy/crowded beach...and...close to the town of PDC. Does this fit the bill? the web site looks good. Thanks!

We just returned from Porto Real. We really enjoyed the property. Location is perfect . . . two block walk to 5th avenue. While we were there a few people had issues with getting the room they had reserved: i.e. ocean view, etc. Accomodations are very good. Beach is nice and you have wonderful access to the Cozumel ferry. We would stay there again.

Thanks Palmer for your response. Did you do the all-inclusive, because I think you can do either/or.
Also , Louie, i will check out the website. thanks. although I was under the impression this resort was brand new. Is it over 2 years old?

I stayed there for 2 weeks in September 2001 and loved it. I am definitely going back. I also took four one-hour private Spanish lessons at a great language school just two blocks from the hotel. I liked being just one block from the town, and being able to walk everywhere. The beach is wonderful, although the stretch of water right in front is a bit rocky - the beach on the other side of the seawall is great (two minute walk).

Very laid back atmosphere - great staff.

I know it is older than two years and I am thinking its at least 4 years and probably older. Never actually stayed there, but I have been going to Playa for 13 years and I read almost all the message boards. The beach is nice, and even nicer of you walk north on the beach. I get the impression that the al package is worth the money if for the drinks, breakfast and lunch. You are close enough to 5th avenue where the majority of the restuarants and still enjoy dinner a few nights. I have seens the rooms and they are nice. I also have heard and read about room mix-ups and in some cases actually were overbooked and did not have a room available and were sending people to their property in Cancun. Good luck! If you like some suggestions on other options, feel free to contact me.

We just came back from that resort. We did get the ocean view we paid for. It was perfect. The rooms are very large, well cared for and very clean. The staff is not a friendly as some places in playa. The buffett is small and very limited. Not so good intertainment, ends very early. Very layed back, almost stuffy people. Beach is rocky, and full of seaweed. Sorry i would not go back to that one. Not horrible but will look elsewhere in playa.
