Gran or Not so Gran?

Costa Rica...

Anyone stayed at the Gran Hotel in Jose? I got mixed reviews of it on tripadvisor.com and am wondering what y'all thought.

The location and restaurant sound excellent, but what are the rooms like?

Lovely building (for the outside). Lousy rooms inside). Sidewalk cafe is nice, but you don't have to stay there to enjoy the cafe.

There are two many excellent other places to stay in San Jose to choose the Gran.

Hi,
They have re-done the downstairs and it is beautiful...... I don't know about the rooms.

I have prefered the Balmoral which is in the same area.
