The rock in the water took a bite of my husband's leg last summer! It's well hidden when the tide is in so be careful and notice where your towels are back on the sand so you don't drift toward it when you're swimming. The waves are a bit unpredictable and sloshed us over twice while we were carrying our 6 month old son. He didn't even notice since my husband is 6'5" and held him above the water the whole time.
That said, Flamingo is gorgeous! White sand and shade trees. FBR is very close to the beach and I wish they would sell drinks or snacks, but the bar area was under construction last summer. So, don't forget to BYO just in case.

Re: Water quality, it seems to be all clear and back to normal. That was a scary post for me to read after we just booked our tickets for May.

Lucky you McGinnis. I am going to Hawaii for my first time (I am 54 yrs. old)in four months but I keep thinking how much I want to get back to Guanacast, CR. Costa Rica is amazing, and though I haven't been to Hawaii, I have traveled. CR is by far my husband's and my favorite (due to the PEOPLE and the scenery, and we haven't even be to Osa nor the Carribean yet. Oh, the joy of anticipation. Pura Vida

Hi T! It's been 13 years or so now since we visited Hawaii with our 3 children. It was a combination 20th anniversary, oldest daughter graduating high school, and basketball coach husband winning a state championship! About 2 hours after his win, when he was higher than a kite, I approached him about a "3 part" celebration in Hawaii and he was readily agreed (out of his head at the time). I think I booked it the next day before he came to his senses!

After that trip, he and I said we'd definitely go back for TWO WEEKS for our 25th anniversary--explore some other islands, etc. We loved it. We didn't. However, the very next year, we traveled to Costa Rica. Hawaii has been off my radar ever since!

Crazy, I know. Hawaii was lovely. It was the people of Costa Rica that grabbed my heart and the opportunity and challenge of learning a new language!

You guys will have a great time!

Thanks Shillmac - I know we will but as you know - I have a greater desire to get back to CR than to Hawaii. But, got to do it once. DD home just today for a bridal shower of a classmate - at my house. I am tired, but had a few glasses of wine after the event. The family is getting excited to go on that Aug. vacation, but I am ready for a vacation Right Now! Those careers (AKA have to have jobs!) sure get in the way of life to the fullest! Hope all is well with you and yours. Dyer
