First trip to Argentina

My wife and I are planning our first trip to Argentina / Chile.
We have two to three weeks and figured 1 week in BA and 1 week in Santiago Chile.
We are excited about the great restaurants and warm feel we have been reading about. What we don't know is, asside from the falls and wine country what is there to do
there.
We are planning to go in Oct 2008

Assuming your Argentina plans include, as you say, the Iguazú Falls, our wine country and BA, one week won't be long enough. Another possibility is our South.

About your "what is there to do
there", I must suggest further research, both here and in http://tinyurl.com/nw9f4

Have a great time in South America.

One week in Santiago is a very long time. It is not Buenos Aires. Look to Patagonia, or Iguazu as additional places to visit. Depending on the time of year you are visiting you may want to combine a beach with BAires and/or Santiago. Rio is easy to add to either destination, as in Punta del Este. Have fun.

What made you choose Argentina ? and Chile?

Aside from great eating out opportunities, are there sights in Buenos Aires that you have seen/read about and are interested in?

We found 2 weeks in BA to be too little time, our first visit. I think you will barely skim what there is to do here..but what are you interested in?

Museums ( over 100)
Amazing architecture
History
Parks
Shopping
Various neighborhoods , each with its own character.
Tango
Music
Dining
Walking

Why we picked Argentina?
Well we have been to many countries and Europe is out because of our poor $$$ exchange. We were attracted by the value and the great beef available. We were told it has a european feel and the people are very friendly. That's what set us off. We love wine, dinning out and shows. not really beach people.

You are going to enjoy Argentina, then

I suggest a guide book, Fodors or Frommers and keep reading the forums. There is a ton of info out there, also, Concierge.com has articles all the time about BA and often about the wine country.

Look into a day trip to Tigre, Colonia, Uruguay and a day on an Estancia ... Enjoy your planning!
