No, I haven't - always in the summer. I think a lot of the places book up a year in advance so you may have your work cut out for you. Prices in Antigua will be up a bit and you'll likely need a 5 day commitment. Keep me posted!!

I have heard that places book up but I have e-mailed one place that I have stayed before and she offered me less days and a ten percent discount..but we will see when I actually go to book.
I hope to go to the lake as well for a few days so hopefully places at the lake won't have a five day min. too or we will be staying in Antigua the whole time and taking day trips.
I am really looking forward to another trip to Antigua. I just can't wait to go back to my favorite places.

I think the lake won't be a problem, though there are some nice celebrations of the holiday up there, too, I've heard. I'll be heading back to some of my favorite haunts in July - seems like a l l o o o n n g g time from now.

It always seems that my trips are so far away but then before you know it they are over and back home waiting for the next one.
I have done a bit of research today and I think I found a place to stay at the lake . I just have to really think things over tomorrow. I haven't booked my last three nights in Antigua but I actually found quite a few places that are willing to break up the five day min. I think I am going to have to decide pretty quickly though.
What do you think about Santa Cruz? Do you think it would be a good area to be in. We are thinking about staying there and doing some day trips with Lee Beal of Kayak Guatemala. Have you heard anything about him or his trips. He gets good reviews on Trip Advisor but a lot of his reviews are from people who have only written one review and I am always leary of those types of reviews.
I know you always speak highly of Mario's rooms in Pana. I guess it would be a possibilty of staying there and doing our outings from there. Maybe I will take a look on line. I have a friend in Antigua who could contact them for me.
Any suggestions? Thanks

The only places I've stayed on the lake are Panajachel (Mario's Rooms - headed back for a night or 2 in July) and San Pedro La Laguna, where I live with local families. In other words - I'm not much help.

There are lots of options - can't wait to hear what you decide! Happy trails!

No actually you are always a help to me. I have stayed at a three differet places.. all lovely and all at different price ranges. I usually travel with a group but this time it's just me and a friend. On this trip I hope to go check out the school that you love.. the one you suggested for me and my son.

Hey- sorry for a double post ( I asked a similar questions elsewhere) but this seems to be a newer thread. Any advice on booking a Tikal flight while in Antigua or elsewhere? Can you get it down below what is advertised online?

Unlikely, though the packages that include shuttles and hotel were a good deal when I researched a few years ago, less then you could put it together yourself. I'd book through one of the agency below if you go with a package. Maybe even if you don't - I've read of the hotels "losing" reservations which is apparently less likely to happen if an agency books it for you. I've never had a problem, though.
